Ask God for wisdom in seeking help and making right choices.
James 1:5"If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you."

A lot of wisdom is hard fought and comes from years of life experience but the wisdom of God is free for the asking in this moment and the next for that matter. The wisdom of the Lord can come in many ways - that still small voice we learn to listen for, that person we cross paths with at just the right moment that says just the right thing, that scripture verse that keeps reappearing in our lives, the word of God coming alive for us while reading our Bibles, that insight we have to our life experiences we might not have otherwise picked up on. The ways God uses to impart His wisdom to us are limitless but He is faithful to give it when we seek it.
I pray that God will impart His wisdom to our loved ones and that He will prepare their hearts to heed that wisdom. When we pray like this we can be sure that God is answering our prayers even if we must wait to see evidence of it in their behavior. When I pray for my loved ones I like to picture them in my mind wherever they may be and tell God that I can’t see them but He can. I can’t touch them but He can. I can’t talk to them but He can. I can’t reach them but He can. And I ask Him to go where I can’t go and do what I can’t do and it brings me a lot of peace and eases my anxious mind even though it doesn’t necessarily change my circumstances in that moment.
I also pray that God will impart His wisdom to you as you navigate loving someone in addiction. There is a fine line between loving and enabling and there are no hard and fast rules about where it is. In fact, in my recovery it has often felt like it is always moving and it is a daily task to find it. I pray God gives us His wisdom to know when to help and when to hold a boundary. He will guide us in our decisions if we will seek Him and then follow that guidance. All of the regrets I have in my daughter’s journey are the times I ignored what God wanted me to do. A good support team is a great help in discerning what to do. Oftentimes, they see things that we don’t and will love us enough to tell us the truth. If you don’t have that good Christian support team, I recommend once more finding a great Celebrate Recovery, Recovery Alive or Al-anon community to join. You don’t have to be alone in this. Of course, God is with you but He will also give you fellow brothers and sisters to walk alongside you. It is an amazing gift!
May God bless you on this journey!
Precious Heavenly Father,
We come before You, lifting up our loved ones who are struggling with addiction. Lord, we ask that You grant them the wisdom they need to seek help and make the right choices in their journey to recovery. Open their hearts and minds to Your guidance and help them see the path that leads to healing and freedom.
When confusion or fear clouds their judgment, we pray that Your voice be clear, directing them to the right people, resources, and support. Give them the courage to take the steps necessary to break free from the chains of addiction, and strengthen their resolve when they are faced with difficult decisions.
Lord, we ask that You protect them from temptation and provide wisdom when they are faced with choices that could either lead them toward healing or pull them deeper into their struggles. Surround them with Your wisdom, and help them trust that You are leading them to a life of peace, wholeness, and restoration.
In Jesus’ name, we pray.
Amen.
