Day 27 Prayers for Perseverance

Pray for perseverance to keep going, even when the journey is tough.

James 1:12

"Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him."

Perseverance is a skill we all need to accomplish the things we want in life but it usually doesn’t come naturally. It usually has to be built up like a muscle by practicing it. Recovery is an intense workout in perseverance and if our addicted loved ones can hold on through the process, they will have the confidence and the will to do the hard things they don’t want to do. It takes a lot of discipline to stop running from the things that have hurt you and face them head on. Time and time again they will see that the reward and sometimes even a miracle is just on the other side of that hard thing. It builds their trust and faith in God’s goodness and reenforces obedience to Him as a habit.

Don’t be afraid to let your loved one go through this process. It is so tempting to rescue them when the going gets tough. It’s hard to see them struggling and it can sometimes seem like it is causing more problems than it is helping when they are working through things. But the miracle - the transformation you’ve been praying for - is just on the other side of that hill.

So let us pray for perseverance for each other as well. It takes perseverance as a loved one of the addicted to walk through this journey as well. It requires us to do hard things and make lots of difficult decisions. The hardest thing I ever had to do was drop my daughter back off at an abandoned house in a crime-ridden neighborhood after she had collapsed with malnutrition knowing she didn’t have utilities or food in the house. \Ii did go back the next day and take food and got her a list of food banks she could walk to. But all my mama heart wanted to do was scoop her up drugs and scumbag boyfriend and all and take her home and love the addiction right out of her, almost as if I could fix it with some homemade chicken noodle soup. That would not have helped as much I would have wanted it to. A couple of weeks later when she discovered she was pregnant, it was her fear and refusal to live that way with a baby is what motivated her and the scumbag boyfriend to get clean. Now He is her husband and I joking refer to him as my favorite child. They are now the amazing parents of that beautiful new executive assistant I mentioned above. The miracle is always just past that hard thing God is asking your to do.

Let us pray too for those in the path of Hurricane Helene and those beginning the clean up and restoration work.

May God bless you on this journey!

Precious Heavenly Father,

We come before You with hearts full of love and concern for our addicted loved ones. Lord, we ask that You grant them the perseverance they need to continue their journey toward healing, even when the road seems long and difficult. Strengthen them when they feel weak, and encourage them when they feel like giving up.

Father, remind them that with You, all things are possible, and that You are with them every step of the way. Help them to keep their eyes fixed on the hope of freedom and new life, and to trust in Your power to carry them through their struggles. May they be filled with the endurance needed to push through the hard days, knowing that You are working in their lives.

Lord, surround them with Your peace and give them the courage to face each challenge, trusting in Your unfailing love and strength. We ask for perseverance not just in their recovery but in their relationship with You, so that they may never lose hope.

In Jesus’ mighty name,Amen.
