Day 1 Prayers for Protection

Ask for protection from harmful influences and environments.

Psalm 34:7 The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.

One of our greatest fears as the loved one of an addicted adult, is that we will get that phone call we have been dreading that our loved one has been physically harmed or killed. That fear is the single most thing that keeps loved ones in a codependent relationship with their addict. What if I tell him no and he does something stupid and gets hurt, killed or arrested? What if I don't bail her out and she gets hurt in jail? What if I don't help him get out of trouble and he winds up in prison? What if I don't go get him drugs to ease the withdrawal and he goes back on the street? And the list goes on and on.

As difficult as it often is, we must seek to show the love of Jesus Christ in our actions and honor God with our decisions. He is never going to call us to sin or enable someone in their sin. We must lift up our addicted loved ones in prayer to Jesus and ask him to work in their life and leave the what-ifs to him. I can't promise that none of those nightmare scenarios will occur but I can promise that God will see you and your loved one through it. He works all things for the good of those who are called according to his purpose. Time after time, I have seen the miracles begin when the "worst-case" fears come to be. While we don't wish those things for our loved ones, we must not be afraid of it.

Let's pray for their protection today and ask God into the situation one more time. To go with them and protect them from harmful influences and environments and physical harm and even death.

Precious Heavenly Father,

We come before You today to lift up our loved ones who are battling addiction. Lord, we ask for Your divine protection over them. Surround them with Your mighty angels, guarding them from every danger, temptation, and harm that seeks to ensnare them. Lord, we ask that you protect them from overdose and any other situation that could take them from us before they have had an opportunity to get clean.

Father, shield their minds from negative influences and harmful thoughts. Protect their hearts from despair and hopelessness. Cover them with Your peace, that surpasses all understanding, and guide them to safe places where they can find help, healing, and support.

We pray that You would break every chain of addiction that holds them captive. Keep them from environments, people, and situations that would lead them back into destructive behaviors. Instead, lead them to places of safety, love, and recovery.

Lord, we trust in Your power and Your love. We know that You are stronger than any force of darkness, and we place our loved ones into Your capable hands. Be their refuge and their fortress, their God in whom they can trust.

Thank You, Father, for Your unfailing love and protection. We rest in the assurance that You are with them, even now, guiding them towards freedom and new life in You.

In Jesus' name, we pray.

Amen.
